In years past, I have always tried to make “New Year Resolutions” only to fail at them! I have never felt more like a failure than I do every New Year’s Eve when I am thinking about starting a new year! The desire was there, the thoughts and passion was there, but somehow I always failed!
As I was sitting there thinking about all of this, I remembered that a lot of times when you are down, you feel isolated, so I started looking up the statistics on New Year’s Resolutions. Here is what I found from the Statistics Brain Research Institute…
45% of all Americans usually make New Year’s Resolutions and only 8% are successful!
These are the 4 common resolutions:
47% Self Improvement
38% Weight Related
34% Money Related
31% Relationship Related
And the duration of the resolution dramatically drops after the second week!
This week, I’ve taken time to meditate and really think about all of this because I am so sick and tired of NEVER getting anything accomplished! I fall right back into the same routine as I was in before! I was looking on my prayer wall and I noticed all of the sheets of paper that didn’t get answered! What was I doing wrong? Then I realized, every one of the prayers that didn’t get answered were the negative aspects of my life. Let me ask you this? How do you see yourself? Most of us always think that the 4 categories listed above are always the ones that we think others judge us on! You say this is not you but are you asking yourself these questions? How can I become better at what I do? How can I make more money? How can I dress better? Look better? Maybe if I dress better, look better, and make more money; my spouse will love me more. Maybe if I can show some improvements I would be more accepted.
May I say with great boldness and love…WE ARE FOCUSED ON THE WRONG THINGS!
This year, in 2016…My wall will be full of thankfulness! I am perfect and my life is just as it should be! There will be no negative aspects of my life, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made! There is nothing lacking in my life for God is the orchestrator and He ordains every little detail!
Before ANY decisions are made, there will be prayers regarding these decisions and therefore, if it’s something that requires instant demand that I do not have time to pray and seek after Gods will about it; I probably will not be partaking in it!
I want to see 2016 full of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance! These are the things that will be on my prayer wall!
I will leave you with this thought…It’s never too late, you are never too far from God! God made time for a reason! He has given us, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, and decades so that we will always be able to “start fresh!” This year, stop focusing on what you think you are not! What you think you do or do not have! And start focusing on Him!
Matthew 6:31-33 KJV
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? Or, What shall we drink? Or Wherewithal shall we be clothes? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
Don’t allow the world to set your destination based on their expectations and your thought patterns.
Instead let this be your thought pattern for 2016:
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Philippians 4:7-9
